house picture

Posted: under Uncategorized.

Dawn has shared one of her beautiful flower photos to demonstrate how to upload pictures to my blog. Now I get to try on my own. I am posting a picture of the back of my little house in the woods. The picture may be fuzzy. I can’t tell from here.

literature

Posted: under Walden.

Here’s today’s message from Thoreau……..on page 192. ” I think that having learned our letters we should read the best that is in literature……..Most men are satisfied if they read or hear read, and perchance have been convicted by the wisdom of one good book, the Bible, and for the rest of their lives vegetate and dissipate their faculties in what is called easy reading.”

Hummmmm……….no wonder Walden was not particularly popular with the masses.

messages

Posted: under Walden.

‘Walden’ was the fist book I read after moving to the forest. My book group was willing to read it with me and to meet at my unfinished house for the discussion. We loved the book. Appreciated the work that Thoreau put into this classic. It seems that there are messages on every page. Sooooo……occasionally I ask my inner voice for a number and go to that page and see what message jumps out at me.

Today on page 212 was the message that made me smile……There can be no very black melancholy to him (her) who lives in the midst of Nature and has his senses still.

Keeping my senses continues to be a life goal. No very black melancholy here.

heightened awareness

Posted: under Ramblings.

If you are not paying attention to Oprah’s latest venture with Eckhart Tolle, then you don’t know me very well. I told her 3 years ago to get E. Tolle on her show. I have read his books, listened to his CDs, given away at least 20 New Earths and 5 Power of Nows. I outlined the show for her. Also wanted Wayne Dyer and Caroline Myss in the discussion. Guess I’ve got to give Oprah more time. She is reading my mail, right?

My latest venture with heightened awareness arrived in my yoga class Monday night. My yoga teacher commented on my comments about her class. (which I love…….my body does too.) Ultimately I realized that what I write is being read. Yikes……feels like a big step to me.

rainy day

Posted: under Uncategorized.

One of the many things I like about working part time is not having to ‘go in’ when it is raining. This is one of those days. Yeah………..best thing is that one of my jobs can be done from my computer at home.

Soooo…..here I am in my office/shed, listening to the rain on the tin roof, drinking coffee and feelin’ grateful. I’m looking out my window at a forest scene that looks A LOT like the picture featured in this blog. When I (read Dawn) learn(s) how to put pictures in the blog, I can show you the amazing similarities. Looks magical to me.

Thank you all for your comments.

things would be different…..

Posted: under Uncategorized.

Were it not for my friends, this blog title would be something like
“Woman writer in a condo in downtown Austin”
“Woman writer in the heart of the Yucatan” I could go on. My point is that I wouldn’t/couldn’t be doing what I am doing if my friends hadn’t helped me create the opportunity. There’s no way I would enjoy living in my Airstream if Jeff weren’t ready and willing to deal with whatever. I know my life lesson is to take care of myself, but there are some things I just DON’T want to do……….if you get my drift.

And were it not for my friend Dawn this blog would not even have a title. Soooo……..here I am sitting in the woods, writing my blog. Thanks to my friends……all of them.

OK…..here I am

Posted: under Woman in the Woods.

In the woods………….I am a woman in the woods. I know that because I can see the woods out of the window in front of me. I am not a woman who longs to live in the woods. I am not a woman who dreams of living in the woods. I am actually her……doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing. How do I know that? Because living in the woods is what I am doing.

What a concept…..doing what I want to be doing. NOT doing what I don’t want to be doing. Making the happy choices. Can’t help it………there’s just no going back.

OKay……..I am a woman in the woods. I write about what I know. Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement.

Love, Lynne
